Brazil's Chamber of Deputies Economic Development Commission advanced rules for the Drex, the Central Bank's digital currency, despite the project being paused last year. The report by Deputy Lafayette de Andrada proposes safeguards including no mandatory replacement of physical cash, bans on surveillance or discrimination via the currency, and requirements for judicial authorization to access transaction data. It also mandates transparency, independent audits, and financial inclusion to maintain accessible payment alternatives.
