A New York Times investigation suggests British cryptographer Adam Back is the most likely person behind the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto, Bitcoin's creator. Journalist John Carreyrou's year-long probe analyzed cypherpunk mailing lists, writing patterns, and Back's history, including his 1997 Hashcash invention cited in the Bitcoin whitepaper. Back has repeatedly denied being Satoshi.
